How To Adjust A Rain Bird 5000 Series Rotor

Adjusting a Rain Bird 5000 Series Rotor is essential for ensuring that your lawn or garden is watered evenly without wasting water. Whether you need to modify the spray distance or alter the arc to cover only a specific area, this guide will help you make the necessary adjustments like a pro.

Follow these steps to properly adjust your Rain Bird 5000 Series Rotor:

Required Tools

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Rain Bird Rotor Adjustment Tool or small pliers

Adjusting the Arc (Left Stop and Right Stop)

  1. Start the sprinkler system. Wait for the rotor to reach its left stop, also known as the fixed side of the arc.
  2. To adjust the left stop:
  3. Physically turn the entire sprinkler casing and the accompanying internals until it aligns with the desired left-side edge of your watering area.
  4. To change the right stop, insert the Rain Bird rotor tool into the adjustment socket, which you’ll find on top of the rotor. If you don’t have the rotor tool, a flathead screwdriver can work as well.
  5. Turn the adjustment screw clockwise to increase the arc or counterclockwise to decrease it.
  6. The rotor can be adjusted from 40 degrees to 360 degrees. Be sure to make small adjustments and check the results to prevent over or undershooting your target area.

Adjusting the Spray Distance (Radius)

  1. Locate the radius adjustment screw on top of the nozzle turret.
  2. Use the Rain Bird rotor tool or a flathead screwdriver to turn the screw.
  3. Turn the screw clockwise to decrease the spray distance up to 25%.
  4. Turn counterclockwise to increase the distance, ensuring you do not force the screw beyond its factory setting as this can damage the internal components.
  5. Make these adjustments while the system is off to avoid injury from the high-pressure spray.

Flushing the Rotor (If Needed)

  1. Twist off the top of the rotor counterclockwise.
  2. Turn on the watering system to flush out debris.
  3. Once cleared, reassemble the rotor and secure the top.

Final Testing

  • After making your adjustments, run the system to ensure that the rotor is covering the desired area correctly.
  • Make any additional fine-tuning as needed by repeating the steps above.

Always remember to shut off your irrigation system while making adjustments to prevent injury and allow for more precise control. With these adjustments, your Rain Bird 5000 series rotor should be operating optimally, ensuring that your lawn or garden receives the proper watering it needs.
