2024 Water Restrictions for the City of McKinney

As part of our ongoing efforts to conserve water and ensure a sustainable supply for all residents, the City of McKinney has implemented the following water restrictions for 2024. Please review these guidelines carefully and adjust your water usage accordingly to help us protect this vital resource.

Watering Schedule

Lawn and Landscape Irrigation

  • Residential Properties:
    • Even Numbered Addresses: Water only on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
    • Odd Numbered Addresses: Water only on Wednesdays and Sundays.
  • Commercial Properties:
    • Water only on Mondays and Fridays.
    • No Watering: Thursdays are designated as a no-watering day for all properties to allow the water system to replenish.

Time Restrictions

  • Watering is permitted from 7:00 PM to 10:00 AM to minimize evaporation and ensure that water is used efficiently. Watering during the heat of the day is prohibited.

Prohibited Activities

  • No watering during rain or within 24 hours after measurable rainfall.
  • No watering of hard surfaces such as sidewalks, driveways, and streets.
  • No use of water hoses without a shutoff nozzle for vehicle washing.
  • No operation of ornamental fountains or similar structures unless they recirculate water.

Exemptions

  • New Plantings: Newly seeded or sodded lawns are exempt from the schedule for the first 30 days after planting.
  • Drip Irrigation Systems: Drip irrigation systems and soaker hoses are exempt as long as they are not used between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
  • Hand Watering: Hand watering with a hose equipped with a shutoff nozzle is allowed any day but must adhere to time restrictions.

Enforcement

  • The City of McKinney will be monitoring water usage and enforcing these restrictions. Violations may result in fines or other penalties. We rely on the cooperation of all residents and businesses to adhere to these guidelines.

Tips for Efficient Water Use

  • Adjust Sprinklers: Ensure that sprinklers are watering your lawn and garden, not sidewalks or driveways.
  • Check for Leaks: Regularly inspect your irrigation system for leaks and fix them promptly.
  • Use Mulch: Apply mulch around plants to help retain moisture and reduce the need for watering.
  • Choose Native Plants: Incorporate drought-resistant and native plants into your landscape.

By following these restrictions and utilizing these water-saving tips, we can all contribute to a healthier, more sustainable water supply for the City of McKinney. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to water conservation.
